Hey there, dude.
Sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your drive.
In the post it says that your configuration is Mac OS X, but you say that you're using the HDD with an Acer laptop so I assume that it's formatted for Windows.
Do you need the data which is on the HDD or you just want to fix it? If you need the data I'd recommend that you first try to recover it. You could try accessing the drive via Linux Live CD/USB to see if it's recognized properly, or try some of the data recovery options from this thread: https://www.tomshardware.com/
If you do not need to recover any data or you've already done that, then I'd recommend that you try fixing the issue by using the chkdsk command in CMD. Here's how to do that:
1. Start CMD (https://www.digitalcitizen.life/7-ways-launch-command-prompt-windows-7-windows-8?utm_campaign=7_Tutorials_Redirect&utm_medium=redirect&utm_source=7tutorials.com
2. type in "chkdsk /f /r X:" without the quotations (where "X" is the letter of the drive you wish to check, so make sure you chose the WD Elements' letter)
3. Press "enter" and wait for the process to complete.
4. Reconnect your drive and try accessing it again.
If that doesn't work, I'd recommend that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostics) and run both tests (Quick and Extended) to see what's the situation with the drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=n9iuyZ
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
