Hi Hakkak

To determine if it is hardware or software you could try using the mic in another PC. If it works the mic is ok.

To check the hardware/software in your laptop could be harder. First I would try a different mic (but if you have proved the original works already, then this might be a pointless exersize).

Next (if still not working) I would delete all sound devices from device manager. DO NOT delete the driver software. Now restart your system - the sound devises will be found and installed when it boots and a bubble might appear saying new hardware found. When all is installed restart the system again (this is not usually needed, but sometimes it is so I have included it here). Now try your mic again and see if it is now working.

I hope this helps.

Good luck - let me know how it goes.

web cams are often USB based (yes even the built in ones). Try the same thing as you dud with the sound devices in Device Manager, but this time delete the USB controlers (there are usually 2, but can be more). Again, dont delete the driver software. You might find tha cam now works, but the mic still doesnt - let me know.
