Weird date display in excel

Hello,

This seems like a really simple problem to solve but totally has me stumped.

I have entered my date as 30/11/15 (DMY) into the excel cell yet it displays as 42338. I have checked and confirmed "Date" has been selected as the number format.
The date displays perfectly in the formula bar but not from the cell.

Please help me fix this.

You can format the text to a date using =text(string to change,"DDMMYY")

Check if Show Formula is turned on. On windows you can toggle between show and hide by using short cut Ctrl + `
