If you are using an the iPhone preinstalled mail app, try an alternative by going on mobile safari and go to your email account website. Log in there and hopefully you will see your emails in the mailbox.
What might have happened is that your iPhone hid your emails from the mailing app after a period of time. You can change it by going to settings and ajdust it.
