I need help so that I can transfer music to my little .mp3 player, which my laptop doesn't even show is available, even though the player is giving indication of charging thru the laptop.

Hello Slicerice,

Have you checked if your flash drive works correctly? The problem may not be related to the energy that the MP3 uses. You have to go to the Device Manager to see if it gets detected under Other devices or Disks. Another option is to restart the computer and enter the BIOS menu. The USB should be seen in the USB ports if it is recognized at a physical level. If you have the option, I recommend connecting it to different computers with different operating systems to see if it gets recognized there. If recognized, try to scan it with a manufacturer's tool designed to test the health status of the external storage devices. If the flash is not recognized anywhere, it may has been damaged.

Hope I gave you some ideas. Cheers.
