Help! My MS Word Icon has changed

Hi. I hope you can help me. About a week ago my Word doc icons suddenly changed on documents that I created or edited. Once edited or created, they lose the original default Word document icon and become white with a W in the bottom right corner. :( Based on what I read on troubleshooting sites, I think the icon cache may have been damaged but I don't know. I have W7 Pro, Office 2010. The documents can open just fine and there's no problem with that but it is disconcerting to say the least. I'd like to get my default icon back if possible without having to install a program to do it if I can. Can you help me? Thanks very much.
