In general, you should have display on screen even if the hard drive is not working. You should be able to go to BIOS menu, but Windows will not load. In order to check the HDD’s health, you should remove it from the laptop and connect it to a desktop PC, as a secondary storage drive. Download the drive manufacturer’s diagnostic tools and check the drive.
If the laptop is under warranty, first contact the seller because removing the HDD will void the laptop’s warranty.
