Black screenflashing LED,s nothing except hdd on

Hello,



I have a dell inspiron laptop not sure which one though its an old one running windows xp media center edition. When you press the power button a sound comes from somewhere in the computer not a beep kind of a trying to start sound. LED's power full, others flashing. I left it outside one night accidentally could that have anything to do with it? it wasn't raining though... nothing above works can you please help me. thanks in advance.
