I-pod Help

Hello, i am having trouble connecting my new ipod shuffle (3rd gen) to itunes.
I connect the ipod to the computer using the chord but nothing comes up on the computer or itunes!
i really need help please!

hi,
check if the iPod is connected the right way round,
try it in another port,
make sure that the cable is working fine.
