Actually, this is a common issue, when it comes to multimedia keys. What you need to do is open the laptop manufacturer’s web page and search for some information about drivers and updates. There may be an .exe file that you need to download and execute in order to get the full functionality of your laptop.
Check if you have some installation CD that comes with the laptop and is about the keyboard.
