HELP!!!

I've got that lovely (not so lovely) black screen with the curser but when I try F8 and the option screen comes up to choose safe mode, it won't let me do anything. The keyboard simply doesn't respond. I don't have the disk. It's an old secondhand computer with vista preloaded. And I don't have another keyboard just the USB one I'm using.

Do you think it is the keyboard?

When you choose safe mode, does it load?

I haven't ruled out the keyboard being the issue. I have not been able to get it to select safe mode. It automatically highlights start windows normally and proceeds to do so. Wondering if it's because it's a USB keyboard.

Well, vista would need the drivers for the keyboard (it doesn't self heal like 7 or above). If the laptop stopped working, then you attempted the USB keyboard it isn't going to work.

What make and model of laptop is it?

It's one of those towers, not a laptop. The keyboard connects via USB. I am unsure of what make and model etc. Not home right now to look.
