CD/DVD drive quits

I have an old Gateway notebook. The dvd drive quit working on it so I replaced it. The new one worked a few times and it did the same thing. I took it out and cleaned it with air but it still does the same thing. The cp is recognizing the drive and initiates the process and the drive begins to perform but trys several times and quits. any suggestions?

Maybe drivers? Gateway is very particular, almost proprietary on some models. Check the gateway website for up to date drivers. It may be the MB firmware that needs updating. Visit Gateway and check around their support pages.
