Am interested in developing a software for our church that will help us generate reports and other useful tools for decision making. How do I go about it?

Design a Database. Design a front end. Deploy a web front end on AWS, and start charging for it.....

Very judicious advice you gave. But, if I may intervene, thromphiri may be looking for, as it is a church and non profit organization, is some kind of an accounting software to record the numerous and generous donations, expenses and salaries for church leaders, tax deductions, miracles, as well as transfers to other accounts.

Oh, no need to re-invent the wheel, I agree with Ambucias, and use something like Quickbooks!
