Hello,
I own a desktop computer that i hooked up to my motorola SURFboard cable modem. I recently purchased a dell inspiron laptop with wireless capabilities. If I set up a wireless network with my laptop and purchase a wireless network adapter for my desktop, can my laptop access the internet through the adapter? The reason I ask this is because I don't want to purchase an expensive wireless router or another modem, and I can't connect via ethernet cables because they're too short.
Many thanks,
Staci

I have used both D-Link and Linksys products - either should work just fine. You can save money by buying a G type router. The latest-greatest routers use the N type specification. But, you will not need the greater bandwidth if you are not downloading large files like movies.

Amazon lists the D-Link WBR-1310 for under $30. Just Google the product ID.

Good Luck

A wireless router is the best solution. If you shop around you can find them for under $30. I have the same motorola cable modem with a wireless router and it works fine.
