My computer says application not found

I have a Dell inspiron . 1525 with windows vista
When I try to open things like my itunes or my photo galary pretty much just any shortcut a message window pops up and says Application not found. They used to work but one day I turned on my laptop and EVERYTHING was gone, my pictures were gone and all my songs on itunes were deleted then the next day they were all back and this was happening. Can some PLEASE help me

Dear Sir,

The applications might have been mistakenly deleted or whatever but in order to get them back I will be advising you to make a back up of your database and carry out a system restore.
