Fan blows hot air

Hello, Why does the motor get louder and the fan blows hot air from the back of my PC... is my computer going to overheat? It is on a hard surface not on a cushion. I was scanning my harddrive looking to compress some files. My computer is very slow lately.

By the way I tried the battery removal and depressing the power button on my daughter's pc that had the black screen of death....and YES it worked. This was after Staples said it would cost $$ for a diagnostic and $$ for parts. Cape Cod PC
