What does Advance System Settings in Windows 7 do?

in windows 7 what does this do?
Select Start > Control Panel > System > Advance System Settings

This is the area where you wold turn on and off certain start up applications, set a page file location and size and all sorts of other stuff that will MESS your PC up if you have no idea of what it does! Do not make any changes in this area unless directed to do so by a tech!
