I can't access my hard disk drive through my usb to sata cable

Hello,

i am using a USB hard disk transfer cable to try and transfer files from my existing hard drive to my new one, but the disk doesn't show up in my file browser and when i try to access the disk through the control panel, it shows up grayed out and i cant click on it. when i tried the cable with an old spare drive it worked fine. any ideas?
