Laptop battery crashing

hi, i have a toshiba satelite laptop, and it was hooked up to my samsung smart tv, when i downloaded a remote app on my phone for the tv, i tried to turning tv vol up, and was doing so, when i seen the laptop shut off, now when i boot it up, all is fine for 8 or so min, the shuts off again. i checked batt icon and it does say ? wrong with batt and may shut off at anytime, only problem is it running off the power supply ? a virus im thinking, any answers ?
