LG6 update cannot get to whatsapp voice recorded

since LG6 update cannot get to whatsap voice recorded messages.shows: unable to connect try again later
2 months down the line still unable written messages are fine
whatsap support comes back with irrelevant information or proper assistance to rectify and I don't want to remove and reinstall because of wiping out all the previous messages and associated data
any suggestions?

Well, if whatsapp isn't supporting you on this, I am not certain what other fix there is besides DELETE and re-install!
