I have an Acer Aspire 5552 laptop with Windows 10. All working fine yesterday when I put it to sleep. When I returned, it wouldn't start up. Fan going, start button lights but blank screen and no hard drive activity. Tried soft boot, hard boot etc but nothing, any ideas? Can't get it to safe mode. Dont have recovery disc.

Press and hold the POWER BUTTON DOWN for 30 seconds. It should be off at this point. Take the battery out, and unplug AC convertor from wall, and take it apart into two pieces. Press and hold power for another 60 seconds. Put it back together, and try again.

Thanks for your suggestion, tried it but unfortunately it didn't work. Think I need a recovery disc.

HOw would a recovery disk help, if it doesn't power up? You need a qualified technician at this point. If that didn't help, you have a serious issue. How long have you had the machine?

As I said before it switched on, fan runs but hard drive is inactive so nothing on the screen. It's probably an issue with the drive but I was hoping because I didn't have any issues before this, it's not booting, so a rescue disc might help? I am getting someone to have a look at it as I clearly can't do anything myself. Thanks anyway.

Try this

1. Remove the battery and cable.

2. Press and hold the power button for 58 seconds.

3. Replug and start.

Good luck
