Recovering my Gmail account

Hello,

When I try to open my email, I get the new box where you have to sign in using your password. I type in my password that I have used for some time now and it won't accept it. I go to "forgot password" and when I press this button it comes up with want to send me a code. Well, guess what. If i can't get into my e-mail, then how in this world can I get the "code?"
