There can be two possible reasons behind the non recognizable hard drive such as physical failure or software failure. I have seen many cases where hard drive not showing in Windows explorer but available in device manager and disk management Window and from there one can easily fix his drive. So i would suggest you to check your drive's visibility in device manager or disk management first and try to fix it manually.
