New pc desktop won't start, monitor says no signal

Hello, bought new hp desktop and lg monitor.hooked it up and all i get is no signal on screen.unplugged replugged no results.tried hdmi cable on my tv and it works.replug into my laptop and here i am . i cant hardly spell computer.need help.
System Configuration: Windows / Chrome 79.0.3945.88

Do your monitor and PC both power on? Are you using the HDMI to connect your desktop and monitor, or are you using a VGA or DVI wire?
