Downgrading compaq vista into xp

Hello,
i have a compaq computer with windows vista installed... i want to downgrade it into xp but when i tried to install using instalation cd of xp there is no drive detected but i try to boot in os(which is the vista) everything is fine). what will i do? pls anybody can help me? thanks a lot...
