Can;t login to facebook

Hello,

I am unable to login to facebook from either IE 7/8 or Firefox 3.5.2. Essentially once you type in your email and password on www.facebook.com and click login it just never responds and eventually times out. I have googled and tried all these other things that other people with a similar issue tried but to no avail. Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance for your help. Running windows xp pro.
