Add values of multiple cells dependant on the

Can anyone help me on a formula???

I need to add the total value of individual cells (put in C) in a colum of cells (B) dependant on what is written in the ajoining cell (A) eg

Item Spend Total Spend
food £12.00 £- food
kitchen £52.00 £- kitchen
garden £42.00 £- garden
exterior £18.00 £- exterior
food £35.00 £- car
kitchen £81.00
exterior £53.00
car £46.00
food £62.00
car £38.00
garden £41.00

NB. Call Item colum A, Spend colum B and Total Spend colum C

My goal is to know for example I spent £12 + £35 + £62 on food
