Setting up an itunes account

Hello,
i'm picking up my ipod touch after work today, and downloaded and instsalled itunes last night.
but, when i try to set up an itunes account (do i need to do this yet?), i get a message on my laptop saying this can't be complete, and the date and time on my computer may be wrong. the date and time are ok, any ideas as to why this i,s HELP!!.
