Sorting in excel without changing colors

Hello,

I have a simple spreadsheet in which every other row has a background color and the others have none. When I sort the rows I want the spreadsheet to keep the background colors in place and just sort the text.

Is this possible? If so, how do I do it?

I have office 2000.
