All files in folders has been deleted

Hello,
my external hard drive has lots of folders as my pc.. and i connect to the internet, then has one msg alert,
next all folders in my harddrive or pc still the same but all folders in it has been deleted.
it is virus? i've never met before, so how can i do to recover my files?
