Outlook 2003 faults out with 1706 error

Hello,

I have a laptop running a local Vista OS and Office 2003. Outlook has been my primary email for some time. Recently the Windows Installer Window started to display, followed by a Spare Backup Window which then faulted to say that the network resource was not available at the file address and recommended that I select the correct one for the process. Not know what the message referred to I would simply cancel the message and Outlook would open normally. I have since start to receive a 1706 error code and now Outlook crashes after a few moments of operation. Does anyone understand what is happening and how I can resolve the problem?
