Hello,
I have an HP 6000 (dv?) laptop that I slew by walking across a carpet and touching the on key thereby releasing a huge static charge into the computer...

Is there an easily fixable protective circuit that might save my motherboard or is it likely dead? (the computer does not respond at al lto any input of any kind, it is juts 'dead')

And - is it relatively easy to recover th edata from the hard drive if teh computer can not be saved?

You can purchase a external USB drive adapter box - remove the drive - plug it into the new box - plug the USB cable into another computer and you should be able to access the data.

You will need to know if the drive is an IDE or SATA type so you can get the right adapter.

Just don't zap the drive the same way you did the laptop.

Good Luck
