Hello,
I just installed 2 sticks of Corsair DDR2 (2x2gb) for a total of 4gb of RAM. When I check My Computer>Properties, computer only indicates 3gb of RAM. What gives? Do I have to change BIOS?
Thanks.
E

32bit Windows XP will never show the full 4 GB due to internal addressing limits. Your video memory space is mapped into the 4 GB address space as is memory on the BIOS. If you have a 1 GB video card that 1 GB is subtracted from the total memory giving you less than 3 GB.
The following components require memory address space:
* System ROM
* APIC(s)
* Integrated PCI devices, such as network connectors and SCSI controllers
* PCI cards
* Graphics card
* PCI Express cards (if applicable)
Very few people report more that 3.24 GB with Windows XP.
Do you need to update the BIOS? Probably not
