Call of duty world at war co-op campaign

Hello,
How do you get the co-op campaign feature to work? My friend & I are using the same xbox 360, and both of us have gold subscriptions. We can play split screen death match offline, but that's it. When I invite her in the lobby it states that "she's watching", but I can't get her in to play. Any suggestions?
