Hello,
I just bought a used laptop. It is an Alienware area 51 M7700. There was a new copy of windows XP Home installed on it. Three nights ago it froze up and wouldn't boot. So I got out the recovery disc. I tried to reinstall. But the disc said there was no hard drive. So I tried a full version of windows XP Home that I have. But it told me the same thing. So then I tried a windows 2000 Pro, and still the same problem. So I installed OpenSuse 11.1. That had no problem installing. I retried to install my recovery disc. Now it can see the hard drive, but the install will only get to the screen that shows you your partitions and able to delete, for reformatting. when I hit the letter "D" it goes to the blue screen of death. This has happened with every copy of windows I have tried now. I was wondering if there was anything I can do or if I should just buy a new hard drive for this machine?

Windows can't delete a Linux formatted partition. Google "killdisk" for a program that will delete the Linux partition.

Good Luck
