Hello,
Basically, I have a new laptop it's a Toshiba Laptop l300d., Pretty new. It awesome.... expect it has a rubbish CPU. AMD SEMPRON 2.09 GHZ. The graphics are decent, that's not the problem... I was looking around and i saw a intel pentium 4 3.2ghz for £44. Shall I buy it? I want it for gaming. Thing is I'm not sure if its compatitible with my laptop =s. I know proccesors are small but don't they have to go onto a mother board and isn't a motherboard rather big? sooooo HELP WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED AND IF YOU CAN FIND ANY CHEAPER OPTION THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC. The CPU let me down.

The SI-42 CPU is top of the line for the S1 socket in that motherboard. NO UPGRADE at all

Sable" (65 nm)

Model Number Frequency L2-Cache HT Multiplier1 Voltage TDP Socket
Sempron SI-40 2000 MHz 512 KB 1800 MHz 10x 0.950V - 1.125V 25 W Socket S1
Sempron SI-42 2100 MHz 512 KB 1800 MHz 10.5x 0.950V - 1.125V 25 W Socket S1

An Intel CPU will NOT fit into a AMD motherboard. You might find an AMD CPU that would fit BUT then it will probably overheat and crash your laptop. Laptops are almost imposible to upgrade. The only exception is if you find that the manufacturer makes an extended line of models with the same motherboard and faster CPU's. Then you MIGHT succeed with an upgrade if the BIOS can handle it.

You have a greater than 60% chance of completely destroying the laptop in your attempt.

Good Luck

Damn, that sucks. Does this mean i have to find an AMD cpu? is there anything that I can do? It's an L300D-242, i'm not sure if newer versions have come out. I don't want to have to buy a whole new pc, after all it is ONLY the CPU.... is there any thing I can do? it has a express card slot.
