Hello,

The graphics chip on my HP Pavillion recentky died so I had to buy a new laptop, I need the data on my old hard drive but when I put the HD in my new laptop it says 'hard drive not exist'. I tried using a usb to sata converter and connected the drive externally. 'My Computer' doesn't show the drive, when I go to 'Disk Management', it shows a device but it's uninitialized. When I click properties, I get this info:

Disk: Disk 1
Type: Unknown
Status: Not Initialized
Partition Style: Not Applicable
Capacity: 0MB
Unallocated space: 0MB
Reserved space: 0MB

Why is the drive showing as empty? is there anyway to recover my files??

hi there,

format it from disk management itself or by using hp disk format tool

then use a recovery software and recover the files and data from it:
