Defective laptop screen, too big!

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite with screen who seems to be defective, It is too big and can't make it smaller, even from Fry's said it might be defective, looks like in Safe Mode. It all started when I tried to cleen the vent, when I closed it it wouldn't start. At Fry's they connected some cabel and it started, but the screen got defective or something. Is anyone have any idea how to fix it! I have another laptop Dell Latitude, I want to use it as a monitor for the Toshiba, but have no idea how, any help with this also! Please I am going crazy with no PC at all!
