Computer not reinstalling after recovery

Hello,
I bought a new computer after thanksgiving, to find out the harddrive was bad, so HP sent me a new HD and recovery discs. Long story short, I installed the HD without a hitch, and loaded all the CDs, etc. Then when the computer restarted it went to the generic HP screen, then to a total black screen with a white blinking line at the top.
The only thing that i've replaced in the computer is the power supply, but since it went through the intial recovery process just fine I don't think its that, but then again it might be.
Anyone have any ideas whats going on?
