Watch my Sony VGN A190 on my Samsung HDTV

Hello,
I have tried connecting my laptop via VGA to my Samsung HDTV and somehow i do not get any image on my TV screen. Checked my settings-Advanced-monitor its set on plug and play and does not offer option for second monitor. My laptop screen resolution is set at 1280 by 768. Do i need different settings?
