My new labtop will not read any disks

Hello,
my new Gateway NV 59 labtop won't read any disks, I've tried reinstaling but they still won't work. I have tried other disks but all it does is nothing.I went to my computer but all it says is insert disk,it says its working propertly.[My labtop has windows 7] please help!

are you having problems with CDs or DVDs ? There is always the chance that you have defective hardware with a new computer.
