Hp pavillion baack screen

Hello,
my laptop hp pavillion dv2601tx with vista home premium stopped starting up then when it did start up it showed nmi memory parity error then it shut down and now all light are on but screen is bank or very very very dim light .i changed ram ,did hard reset but nothing service center says that nvidea has burned and whole motherboard will be changed please help?????????????????????

only way to test is to plug an external monitor in, this will tell you if the mainboard is burned out
