I cant download anything to my linux

Hello,
i reali dnt no wat to do iv jus got a new net book and i cnt do anything with it. i cnt get on MYSPACE and anything i try to download looks like its downloading then i cnt find it agen e.g i tryd downloading LIMEWIRE the linux version and i can find it in my downloaded file jus wen i open it it goes to da internet to a untitled file then does nothing why is this????? i bought it purely to go on facebook do some work and download music to my MP3 player why cant i do these basic things on linux???????????? please help me anybody

i have the same exact problem...just got a mini dell and the operating system is ubuntu/linux and it acts like its downloading then sends it to my desktop and when i try to install it goes right back to trying to download again. I cant download or install skype, itunes, limewire..anything! I asked for windows 7 and they gave me this POS. UGH!
