The browsing speed depends on the number of people on line as well as the modem's speed usually 56000kb.
However your live memory also enters into account. While browsing you should have the minimum applications running including those that run in the background.
How much RAM do you have?
Here is small tool which will show you the applications that run in the backgroung at start-up and that you may not need. Preventing those applications to start will free some live memory and perhaps speed-up your browsing, for the more you browse the more the memory is used.
Also, while browsing, I suggest that you regularly clean-up your cache or temporary internet files.
