Flash Drive is not recognized

Hello,
i have a toshiba 8gb flashdrive that i let a coworker borrow. After he returned it, i can no longer open it, i get an error msg saying "USB device not recognized...". i am able to open other flash drives, but not that one. can someone please HELP, i have very important documents. Please help!!
