Hello,
I have a Compaq NC6220, HP, that I had installed a trial of Windows 7 on. As the days of the trial were coming to a close, I went to install Windows XP on the laptop. After the majority of the installation (which worked fine on my desktop), I got a message that said there was an fatal error and that the installation could not continue.

Once it restarts itself, it comes to the same screen and runs all of this trouble all over again. I've tried to set the laptop to boot from the CD to maybe restart the installation, but that has proved worthless.

In my possession, I have some blank DVDs and an external hard drive if any of those are needed to help get this laptop working again.

Thank you so much!

Hi.
try to boot with the floppys or cd's of partition magic, try to format the hard disk
with ext2 for example, then try tho format again with ntfs or fat32 .
then check disk for errors. If everything ok . then try to boot with windows xp cd, if you think that the optical have a problem try with the external drive.
