Connection 2 laptop's

Hello,
i am new in network connection,i want to connect two pc's so i could create a socket connection betwwen them.what are the requirment for this.
configuration:1st laptop:dell-2gb-160gb,window7.
2nd laptop:dell-2gb-160gb,window vista.

sorry,if i have any mistake............

Please do mention if you are planning to connect both to each other or connect both on a network?Please give more information so as to make it easier to help you.

If you wanna connect both computers, you can take a look on this connecting 2 computers directly by using crossover cable article. Hope this helps.
