Damn it gta 4 help

i have 1.7gb nvidia gt120=9500gt,windows vista sp1 home premium.2gb ram DDR3,and graphic drivers the newest,when i play gta 4 and low settings it still lag,so only way is i want to patch it,after patch it ,i caNNOT START MY GAME IT SAYS ERROR,SO I CANNOT PATCH CAN ANYONE HELP ME ?I KEEP U POST ABOUT THE ERROR SOON peace!
