HELP!! Cannot start HDMI on TV

I have an HP Pavillion DV4 laptop with Vista OS. Whenever I connect my laptop to our TV thru HDMI cable, nothing is happening, it's not starting to connect. what I know is if I connect the HDMI cable to the TV, it will automaticaly start. Can somebody help me on this problem, are there any software configuation I have to do?
