MY MONITOR IS SPARKLING!!!!!!!!!!!

my lg crt monitor was working very well for the past 6 months , but all of the sudden it emmited sparkles and smoke from the side holes of the monitor I didn't know what to do so I just turned it off .. the next time after 15 minutes I again restarted it
then I could see that the smoke was continously coming and I decided to shut down the system

1) Can I use another monitor?
2) What actually happened to my monitor?

The monitor power supply shorted out. It's not worth the money to fix it. Sorry
